Good Friends and a glass of Wine

Leann Rimes said it best, “Who died and crowned me everybody’s everything; I’m even bustin’ my butt through the weekend!”….and goes on to sing, “The kind of therapy money can’t buy. Every now and then, every girl (or guy) needs a good friend and a glass of wine.” *the guy part is there, because….YES, they need it too!*

This past weekend, Wayne and I got to go out on an OFFICIAL date! One where we left the house, left Loli with a sitter, and got to have adult beverages TOGETHER. We went to a local German restaurant, and then met up with some friends for drinks. It was relaxing and fun. And the best part is that I didn’t have a panic attack like I thought (about leaving the baby for that long). She was in GREAT hands though, so WHY would I have worried?!?!?!!?

I’d forgotten how releasing it is, to get out with friends and just let go for a few hours. After it was all said and done, though, Wayne and I agreed that it is just as fun to order take out, pop a bottle of red wine, and sit at home with Loli. She’s always asleep before 8, so we get “alone time” (and we save SO MUCH MONEY). I’d also forgotten how EXPENSIVE it is to go out on the town!!!!! *ouch*

I will now give “props” to The Nook! If you are a North Alabama (mostly Huntsville) local, you may know this place. It’s the “Land of HUNDREDS of beers”!!! There used to be about 150 (I think), but now that Alabama passed the law & alcohol content was raised, I’m pretty certain I heard someone say there were over 250! AMAZING, huh?

When you first hear that it’s on “the wrong side of Bob Wallace”, you get a little scared. Then you see the parking lot, and you get a lot worried! It’s kind of a “hole in the wall” from the outside, but when you walk through those doors, you’re greeted by warmth and security.

The crowds are always a variation of ages and “cliques”, but you feel at ease, KNOWING that a “bar brawl” isn’t going to happen. Everyone is happy and light; conversation is abundant. If you came alone, you’d surely leave having made friends!!!

OH, and then, there’s the BEER! While they do serve wine and a few select liquors….if you’re coming to The Nook, you are coming to sample the hundreds of beers they have! Everything from fruity to the thickest STOUTS you can imagine. And it’s all at the end of your wrist, in a frosty mug or fancy glass! I tried Bell’s Cherry Stout…..

When the waitress first brought the bottle to me, I thought it was going to be very thick (as most stouts I’ve had), but when I poured it into the glass, I got a little nervous. It reminded me of watery oil-VERY dark, and no foam? The aroma of cherry hit my nostrils, and I took a small sip (worried that I may have bit off more than I could drink).  The beer was amazing; it was like drinking an alcohol filled fruit juice-just sweet enough and the stout wasn’t bitter or too “heavy”. I liked it!

While I wanted to sample more, I haven’t really drank much since the baby was born. Didn’t want to over-indulge (I still have to be a mommy once I get back home!). I’m sure we’ll go back though. I’ve missed my friends BUNCHES. They’ve been gracious enough to come over for a few “get togethers”, but who doesn’t want to come over and see Loli?!!?

So, I’m hoping that maybe once a month, we can get together and meet up at The Nook. Have only been 4 times now, but it’s been a blast EVERY time! Of course, that happens when you have amazing friends, and a wonderful husband…..

Yep, I’ll say it again, I’m a lucky girl!!!!!!!!
