As many of you know, I've been addicted to volunteering and aiding those less fortunate. I've never wanted recognition, never expected anything other than to lift someone else's burdens (if only for a brief moment). I mostly love to focus on groups/charities/organizations that deal with children and animals.
It's that time of year again, so I'll be buying small toys and donating money and food, so that families who don't have the means can have a little joy in their life. I know that there are many out there that feel like donating is frivolous, but I grew up understanding poverty, and the struggles for my father to make sure my brother and I had what we needed (and most of the time, wanted). But back then, "wants" were a little less expensive and more simple (i.e. a Barbie cost no more than 12.00, and THAT was a fancier Barbie). Now, they can cost upward of 100.00?
Anyway, I am all for the action of "pay it forward"; to me, helping a child who doesn't understand why they are in the situation they are makes me feel a little better....and will hopefully give them a brighter outlook on their future!!!
